Re: SVX trani

FWDs do use the same tranny as the AWD models, just without the transfer assembly. Converting is possible, you will need an AWD transmission, TCU, drive shaft, and rear suspension (Not sure if the gas tank is the same or not) and probably some additional parts but not sure.

If you get one with a bad tranny, easiest route is to find a 3.90, 4.11, or 4.44 transmission out of a newer Subaru and swap it in along with the rear differential, the 94-up transmissions, as well as any older transmission that was rebuilt by Subaru, have modifications done to make them live longer, as well as the fact that the higher gear ratios help the transmission not have to work as hard, which equates to a transmission that runs cooler.

For a MT swap, in addition to the "no duh" parts like the transmission, flywheel, clutch, etc... you will need a custom crossmember, a modified pedal cluster, and a modified shift linkage, as well as either a lengthened drive shaft, or a spacer. 6MT swaps will also require at the very least the STi differential drive flange, but the best option is to swap in the R180 rear differential. You'll also need to wire up a DCCD controller, RalliTEK (http://www.rallitek.com/) sells a pretty good one.
