Round butt, square butt

i sold my 928 and its gone tomorrow so i snapped some final pics. i thought the SVX and it looked kinda funny parked next to each other. with the departure of the "Garage Queen", the SVX gets to move into its new home! i never would have thought i would be lucky enough to own two of the best (IMHO) GT cars ever.

Interesting -

Even though I am at the other end of the planet your photo could have been taken beside any house in my street as the scene is so typical.

I gather you have decided which is the better car to keep.

i would keep the 928 if we didn't get snow here. i have to have a beater car for winter, and i just don't have time to deal with 2 cars since i just bought a house. the 928 and the SVX have a lot of similarities. nobody knows what they are, little aftermarket support, expensive parts, mechanics who know what they're doing are hard to find - what the hell is wrong with me?!?!?! a 928 with an SVX's climate control and AWD, or an SVX with the 928's V8 and tranny - perfect!

i know what you mean.....

i guess when you get a house priorities change. i have two problem cars too. the svx and my conquest TSI. hardly anyone knows who to work on them, they are both super sensitive, and both are expensive to get repaired.

i still dont think i could have gotten rid of the 928. damn that is a nice car.

well, the 928 is gone on the way to the airport to deliver it to the new owner, a Honda S2000 hounded me to race. usually i don't, but.....last drive in it so what the hell. it squatted down at 65 and took off to 150 like it was nothing. still had a lot more. that car was freakin' amazing. S2000 was WAY behind. i think he learned this wasn't no Boxster. good news is, i can give the SVX all my attention and give it a thorough detailing now. my aching back can't wait.

What year was the 928?

What year was the 928? Was it an Auto? A good frined of mine owned a 1984 928S European model with a 5 speed. Quick car... he basically gave that car away though. Sold it for $6500 WITH the $1200 BBS 3 piece wheels ($1200 is what they bring on eBay). Oh well.

it was an '87 S4, auto. probably the best (and fastest!) auto i ever drove. the tranny (rear-mounted) was made by Mercedes, with the casing by Porsche. i had a "parallel kickdown switch" mod on it - a pushbutton switch in parallel with the kickdown sw. mounted to the top of the dead pedal. if you held it down with your toe you could induce kickdown easier and it would hold the gear longer. i was wondering if this would apply to the SVX to get "power mode" easier. does the SVX even HAVE a kickdown switch, or are downshifts controlled by the computer alone?
