Cool

The website was http://www.cars101.com/subaru_svx.html. The break-down of performance by year was as follows:

SVX performance specs courtesy of Gil B. from California. Thanks Gil.

1992 LS AWD: 0-60 7.1, 1/4 mile 15.2, Top Speed 154, Braking 70-0 169, dBA 73

1992 LSL AWD: 0-60 6.9, 1/4 mile 15.1, Top Speed 155, Braking 70-0 170, dBA 73

1994 LS Front wheel drive: 0-60 7.1, 1/4 mile 15.3, Top Speed 136, Braking 70-0 189, dBA 71

1994 - 1996 AWD models: 0-60 7.6, 1/4 mile 15.9, Top Speed 136, Braking 70-0 174, dBA 71

ALL 1997'S 0-60 7.4, 1/4 mile 15.5, Top Speed 136, Braking 70-0 171, dBA 70

Car and Driver magazine September, 1991 issue, 1992 SVX LS-L test results
Standing 1/4 mile 15.7 seconds @ 91 mph
0-60mph: 7.8 seconds, top speed 140 mph

AWD L models were never tested, but according to the specs listed on the cars101 page, they weigh approx 100lbs lighter than the LSi versions due to the deletion of several luxury items.

Not to burst anyone's bubble, but these tests are done to give a ballpark figure. To compare any test, everything has to be setup the same. These are not. Once all test parameters are published and are the same exact track, day, temp, driver, etc, I will believe results. Until then, they just give an idea of performance levels. Numbers are only numbers unless there is more data to back them up.

A big factor in your final 1/4 mile time is due to the air temp and your launch.

If you were 'saving the tranny' and launched from idle, you could have left at least 2-3 tenths of a second on the table.

Also, there can be as much as a 3-4 tenths difference between running your car in 80*+ weather and 40-50* temps.

I haven't taken my stock '96 SVX L to the track, and I won't until sometime in the September/October time frame. I'm going to wait for the cooler temps to come so my time will be as low as possible...

Thumbs up

Agree 100%. Performance tests should only be used as a guideline to your car's performance.

This SVX FAQ page explains...

...the difference in performance due to air temp very well: SVX FAQ - Air filters

Our cars will make 17hp more when the air temp is reduced from 77* to 40*!!!

As someone who has owned a 94, 95 and 96 SVX (though not in that order), I have to say that my ass-dyno (seat of the pants feel) tells me that the 94 was the slowest of the bunch with the 95 being the fastest. Granted, my 95 was a little lighter; it was an L AWD as opposed to the other two being LSi's.

Now, I've driven Halistan's 93 and it pretty much cleans the clocks of all three of my SVX's I've had.

Food for thought... or just random verbal vomit... you decide

A drag racer's rule-of-thumb is that if you remove 100lbs of weight, it's the equivalent of adding 10hp. I'm not surprised that your '95 felt the fastest...
