verrry sad day. that hits home

i found out fri night while i was in atlanta for nopi nationals that sam a person i use to race with and have known many years now got into a car accident racing a mustang. he has a verry fast built supercahrged jetta thats runing in the hi 12s.

well the stang lost control and hit sams car spining him out into the opisite lane hiting a van and cuting the vw completly in 2 halves. kevin in the pasanger seat was killed on the spot and put sam in critical condition.

lesson is wach who u street race and whene and keep it to the track.. sam was a very shy type and never braged or raced his car but the one time he did this hapened.

may god bless him and his family and may kevin be forever in our hearts.

please please my fellow svxers do not do stupid things like this u can change the lives of every one or loose your best freind forever and live with that.

my old car club here is holding a charity event and signing cards for this sad sad day

My prayers go out to all of those who were involved. This should remind us how quickly our lives can change forever.

Indeed, Earl. Let us use this as a reminder to be extra careful out there. Remember, if we dont street race, people will never know how slow our cars really are!

Solar,
I'm saddened by this tragedy. My prayers go out for Sam's speedy and complete recovery from his injuries, both physical and emotional. I know it won't be easy. My prayers also go out for strength for Kevin's family. I can't imagine losing one of my children.

I have lost a child and it's a pain that won't go away, even 30 years later. My grandmother buried three of her children before she passed away at 103, and she became one of the saddest and most bitter people I've ever known. My prayers also are with all involved in this sad event.

When I hear people say "I'm only hurting myself", I must assume they're friendless orphans who never leave their homes. We also can hurt family, friends, coworkers, anyone with whom we've established even a slight relationship. My mother's hairdresser was devastated when my mother passed away.

Frankly, I've never understood why God helped me move unscathed through all the crazy **** I've pulled over the years, while we lose other worthy people at such a young age. Please keep this loss and others in mind, and be smart and careful out there.

Dick, your words were touching, and very moving. Sometimes I, myself, wonder how I made it through high school.

I'm with ya there, buddy. Yes, I'm sure our "Young" bloodlines are intertwined somehow. I look back on all the opportunities I've had to become dead, and shake my head in wonder. I'm still waiting to find out why I'm still here.

He can keep us around for the strangest reasons. There is, perhaps a life you've touched and changed, that you will never know about. That's the coolest thing about the way He works.

Perhaps we're approaching my, "Life is a Lava Lamp" theory.
Details to follow, if anyone cares.

Ron.

just too bad it was something stupid like racing another car for ego.. poor sam has to live with this his entire life killing his best freind... destroying his car in 2 piece and probably spending the rest of his life in jail.. all for what.. a stupid car race.

I often think the same and have decided that I have been watched over. It really comes to light when I realize that if I or someone I love was just in another position by a fraction of an inch, the consequences would have been much worse.

Isn't that the truth. A recent example: I was by myself, at home. A wire had corroded and finally broke in two on my AC blower in the house. I turned off the current to the blower (or so I thought), got my trusty needle nose pliers and proceeded to pull the wire so I could take it Lowes, so I could make sure I had the right guage wire and correct connector to rebuild the wire. The current turned out NOT to be off (I'd turned off the current to the AC, but not the blower) and after my eyes refocused from the flash of light from shorting across posts, I thought to myself, "that was close." Thank goodness I was using insulated pliers. There was a quarter inch deep pit in the pliars where it had shorted across, and the serrations on the tips of the pliers were melted flat. I don't know how many more of these chances I'm gonna get, but, I've been thankful for all of them.

It's a possibility. The farthest-back Young we know about was my father's father. He was originally from somewhere in Alabama, and was a railroad man by the time he got to Georgia; rumor has it he "got around", if you know what I mean.

My father's family was a matriarchy; we know about my grandmother's lineage all the way back to Robert the Bruce of Scotland (yeah, right), and about all we know about my granddaddy was that he was born. Ah, life in the South.

Every once in a while I consider heading over to Scotland and seeking my birthright as a direct descendant of their first king. I imagine I'll be standing in a pretty long line.
