New transmission cost
Hi all,
How much should I expect to pay for a replacement new transmission? I had a look at some of the parts suppliers in NZ and found a very reputable shop who can get me one for NZ$1200 (about US$800). I'm a wee bit suspicious of this, as I've read other threads here where people have bought reconditioned units for as much as US$2500. Your thoughts? Mike. |

Subaruparts.com lists a "transmission assembly" ('92) for $4627 U.S., plus $555 freight.

In the States you can only buy a reman transmission. The situation might be different elsewhere, but I doubt Subaru still sells a new SVX transmission in any country. Dave |

Maybe you should look at rebuild pricing? Unless you know for sure that your tranny's toast...

A reman plus a core charge $1,200. All Subaru reman trannies have a $1,200 core charge. Dave |

Thanks for the replies.
Yeah, it did sound a bit cheap. At that price it's more likely a second hand part instead. Mike. |

i found a reputable builder that was willing to use parts that i purchased (used the level 10 kit) and he charged about $800us labor plus the costs for the converter.

Thankfully it hasn't failed yet, but gear changes are starting to take longer and are not exactly smooth anymore. I've also noticed a power loss in 1st, as the revs go up but the speed doesn't as much as it should. Just to add to my worries it's started groaning when starting from a standstill of under moderate power. I'm going to get it flushed soon and see how it performs after that. |
