Re: What do you guys think about this SVX?

I've yet to find a car that is cheaper to insure than an SVX. This includes quite a wide variety of vehicles including AWD Volvos. And my driving record isn't exactly spotless. I wouldn't think that one extra car would make that much of an impact with all of the discounts that insurance companies are doing.

Also, why not fly out and drive it back. That should give the trans a good test

Re: What do you guys think about this SVX?

Tony, did you bid? I could have sold you my extra pair of beige leather seats and you could have covered them with the grey leather. Surprised only 2 bids for what seems like a nice car, and rust free Im sure being from Cali. I agree with you, I wouldnt want to share my svx with my son either. Did anyone here win the bid?

Re: What do you guys think about this SVX?

No, I decided not to after all. I was seriously tempted on this one. But my wife is right that the insurace will be much more expensive if we have three cars and three drivers versus two and three. More than likely, we will buy a third car when the younger brother turns 16 which is four years from now. It might be a bit too soon to get that car.

Plus, even though he re-painted the car in the listing, he didn't get it clear coated. I am not a paint expert but that just sounds like a bad idea.

Another great example of the importance of reading the words...

this seller is obviously dishonest and definitely NOT the original owner... unless you start counting owners with 84,785 miles on the clock.

Actually, the guy was the 3rd owner and that particular SVX was adopted and raised on the "rusty east coast". Made its way to sunny calif in September... 09/25/2008 with 84,785.

Any "rust free Im sure" would be derived from reverse osmosis during the last 4,000 miles of it's total existence.

CarFax history...

05/16/2008
84,236 Virginia
Inspection Station
Vienna, VA
Failed emissions inspection
09/25/2008
84,785 California
Inspection

Good decision Tony!

Yeah, patience is rarely a bad idea unless it devolves into paralysis. I'm sure the right opportunity will present itself eventually.

On a completely unrelated topic, I will be driving through your neck of the woods this weekend.

With all due respect, cars from Virginia are not typically rusty.

Seems like it might be... clearly he's not...

However, It could still have been a great buy!

That being said I personally would not buy a SVX sight unseen. Unless maybe if it was being sold by a trusted member.
I asked him a question about the paint through ebay and he told me about the clear coat. I was surprised.

Yeah after a few minutes of thinking on it I figured you were both probably right.

Re: What do you guys think about this SVX?

No clear coat is a very bad idea. My '92 Claret had a cheap paint job with no clear coat when I bought it. The paint was totally flat and oxidized already.
