dumb question about mismatched valves

Hey all,

I bought an EG33 on ebay a long time ago and pulled the heads off of it, found a stripped head bolt, drilled the head off of it, sent metal shavings all through one of the heads.
So instead of just pulling the head off to check the wear on it, I ended up pulling the entire valvetrain out of it to clean the metal shavings out.

It was my first time reassembling a valvetrain and I made a stupid rookie mistake of re-installing the valves in different cylinders than I had pulled them out of, due to not labeling them or organizing them based on respective cylinder upon removing them. obviously the intake and exhaust valves are all still intake and exhaust valves, but I ended up with the say, the #2 intake valve in the #4 cylinder etc.

I have returned to the project after some time at school, do I need to pull the head again and relap the valves? can I leave the engine together and finish the build? the engine is completely stock.

let me know if I need to pull it all back apart and relap the valves in the one head.

thanks!
Mitch

Re: dumb question about mismatched valves

There is no difference between the valves from one cylinder to the next, they are only different between the intake and exhaust side.

Very true. But I remember reading somewhere that valves are lapped to fit with their respective cylinder's valve seat and therefore must be relapped if moved to a new valve seat. But I cant remember where I read that or if I read it wrong, hence my question here.

Thanks for the reply

Mitch

Re: dumb question about mismatched valves

That is a good point, let me go look at the service manual and see if I see anything about that!
