wrx trans compatibality?

Just finished putting an 04 WRX five speed in my 92 and have a question on the rear diff.

I remember researching it a while back and found that the final ratio to the 04 wrx trans and the factory svx rear diff are the same and I can leave the diff in the car.
Can anyone share their knowledge to if this is true or not?

Thanks in advance.

Re: wrx trans compatibality?

That is correct. The SVX and the 04 5mt WRX both use a 3.54 rear diff. With the WRX 5mt your final drive is now 3.9 because of the center diff. The 5mt uses a 3.9 front diff with a 1.1:1 center diff which allows it to match the 3.54 rear diff correctly. Rock on.

Re: wrx trans compatibality?

Thank you for the help.

How ever I am now becoming more confused unfortunetly. I took apart one of the factory SVX rear diffs that I have and did the math and its a 37:9 which brings it to a 4.11 final gear ratio.

You must have one that has been converted to 4.44

It's very possible the car had a different transmission put in and was not a stock SVX transmission.

How does that make any sense if he has a 4.11 rear diff?

Re: wrx trans compatibality?

40:9=4.44
37:9=4.11
39:10=3.90
39:11=3.545
