Did you check the ball joints? Also did you check both inner and outer boots for any tears?

Re: cv shaft joint

Yea inner and outer boots are fine . Now I know just because they look good doesn't mean that they are. Is there anything in the the drive line from trans to rear diff that could be going bad ? It's almost like its slipping .

Re: cv shaft joint

If the axles are clicking while driving straight I would replace them really, really soon cause they are going to end up completely broke.

Re: cv shaft joint

I just bought 2 of them from Auto zone about 3 months ago and have had no problems. Got 2 for $120 plus $80 core that I got back. I would just do them both as they aren't that expensive, just keep your dust caps cause new axles don't come with it.

Re: cv shaft joint

Cool now to figure out if its the front or the rear . Is there anything that could be in the drive line it self ? Cuz I haven't been able to get under the car to take a really good look yet.

Re: cv shaft joint

put in the front wheel drive fuse to see if anything changes. it's in the fuse box under the hood.

Re: cv shaft joint

yes there is a fuse location in the under hood fuse box labeled FWD. put one of the spare fuses into the location and it will enable front wheel drive mode and indicated fwd on the dash. this will help to narrow down your problem to front or rear.

Re: cv shaft joint

yup. it will make it only fwd so the rear will spin but not be driven by the transmission. you don't want to drive really far in this mode but it is fine for testing purposes.

Re: cv shaft joint

Well I did the fuse in the fwd trick to figure out if its either the front or rear cv joints are bad and its deffently the rear . Thank you 92 snowmachine. Now is it possible that it could be the rear diff ? Cuz like all I don't want to just through money at it when its in short supply .

Re: cv shaft joint

What noises/symptoms are you getting??? I've never seen a rear axle fail on any subaru or heard of one being bad. I think this should have probably been asked earlier on.
