I agree that it would be nice, but reality reigns---dang few members here would buy or pay for such a system. A simple economically priced OEM spec strut would be beneficial to more members than other options. Likewise, the best return for someone's initial investment. Just my opinion.

Why not an anti-gravity device inside the trunk lid to make it featherlight?
That would be very cool!

Re: Aftermarket trunk strut preference

I have the automatic trunk opening and closing already half worked out!

For the closing part, I can simply put my old trunk struts back on. With those struts, it will fall like a lead balloon... As soon as I get the automatic opening worked out, I will be happy to share that with everyone!

Again, I say stock powered struts.
Have you ever lifted an aftermarket carbon fiber trunk? that's what I consider light, sure the stock svx trunk is by no means too heavy that a 90lb girl couldn't lift it, but why not make it lighter?

Cf trunk might look badass but would probably cost more than it's worth in weight reduction..

Re: Aftermarket trunk strut preference

It is starting to look like based on the democracy of polling and conversation here, the most popular option, and best ROI for the manufacturer, would be to stick with the stock spec ones I am testing now.

I believe they are currently checking out the other option as well, and we can see where that goes, but I'll have these thread results ready for them if it comes down to one or the other.

That brings me to figuring out just how close to OEM the prototypes are.

I'll try to get some video up here asap and I'm also hoping to get together with Earl and one of his cars with new-ish struts on so we can have a trunk opening dual.

You can do that and forego the hassle of the custom fabbing to old hinges for sure, plus it would take you 15 mins tops to get the job done unlike with aftermarket struts..

but for me, the sealing on these struts is like a tyre. I wouldn't buy a tyre which was manufactured 14~19 years ago because I know that the rubber is most probably dry and it wouldn't last long. Again this is just me... (and most of the others...)

He is right Nate... Furthermore even metal trunks are not that heavy.
