SVX Starting nightmare....help

Hi 92 SVX Japanese spec.....cranks and tries to start on 3 cylinders , depress
accelerator to floor and will try to start but cuts out ,,,,keep retrying .
Heavy smell of fuel, checked and resoldered MAF just in case .

First occasion didnt start, left for 1 hour and started perfectly and ran for day with no glitches or starting problems parked vehicle up overnight and next day tried starting but no joy,,,,,same problem except this time couldnt
get to restart before battery terminated ......

There is fuel , MAF okay.....spark as svx is firing on some cylinders and if caught will rev up but cuts out as soon as accelerator released....on first occasion left for 1hr and started perfectly ....2nd as above .....I would say over fueling .

Please point me in the right direction

Is the Check engine light on? Maybe a code stored.

I would guess that the cam position sensor is sending a weak signal. Left hand side, front of engine behind the cam gear. It's the same as the Legacy sensor.

Harvey.

Re: SVX Starting nightmare....help

Yes, yank your cam sensor on the driver side rear of timing cover..... clean tip if necessary. Also remove alternator and do the same with the crank sensors directly underneath it..... looking carefully at the wiring as well.
