I worry that the car will just burn through the brake band and/or high clutch before the owner would notice there was a problem. And, I am surprised that there aren't more solenoid A failures, considering how often C goes out.

That's interesting about the paper gaskets, to be honest I don't recall ever seeing one, but then again I never paid much attention, I only paid attention to the input shaft, sometimes they were real pretty blue in spots

As confirmed above, you have always emphasised the importance of checking line pressure. I have installed a permanent gauge for this purpose, in the hope of gaining information by way of a warning, so as to be able anticipate what could amount to expensive problems.
