4.44 question again

I just finished the swap, but the trans that I put in only has 5 positions for the shifter. I assume those being 'P', 'R', 'N','D','L'... Is this going to be OK??? I guess I simply will not have a '1' or a '2' selection while driving...

Where the shifter cable attaches to the side of the trans... That mechanism has only 5 positions on my 4.44 tranny versus the 7 positions on a SVX tranny...

3.54 SVX trans: 'P','R','N','D','3','2','1' = 7 positions
4.44 Outback trans: 'P','R','N','D','?' = 5 positions

its gotta be jammed... I am pretty sure ALL phase 1 trannies had 7 positions

Went to drive the car last night and I do not have reverse or park. I drove the car around town and besides a low voltage reading and really funny noise coming from the rear passenger wheel well the car ran great. No CEL from the removal of the EGR either which makes me happy. So, basically I have to leave the keys in the ignition and start the car while it is in neutral.... Thoughts???

parking pall is stuck, out of place, etc, causing the no shift back to park......might be that. not fun to split the block - tranny to fix it.

that or you put a powerglide in there. lol RWD. that, or the connectors not connected up tightly.

I will ask again if you are checking the shift movement with the cable disconnected?
If you only have 1, 2, 3, d, n, with the cable off, drop the transmission pan and look at the shift movement to see if anything is bent/out of place.

BTW, Did you get heat and light back yet?

Nope and to add as a kick in th groin we are supposed to get 20inches of snow starting this afternoon and going through sunday...
