axle nut threading direction?
Title says it all... before I go and really try to break this little bastard loose, are the axle nuts on the SVX threaded clockwise-tighten or clockwise-loosen?
What a project. -sz

Re: axle nut threading direction?
Clock-wise tighten, just like everything else on the car.
They can be a b**** though! I snapped a breaker bar in half while trying to remove one once! Dustin

I had a near 300lb guy jumping up and down on the breaker bar while it was on that nut! Luckily the bar had a lifetime warranty! So I just drove to the store and swapped it out with a brand new one! Dustin

Re: axle nut threading direction?
I'm only 165 lbs. I need heavier friends.

Re: axle nut threading direction?
get a good big breaker bar and a 12 ft 3/4 galvanized pipe to use as a cheater and it will slip right off!
Keith Push down of course. |

Re: axle nut threading direction?
An impact gun is your friend. If you don't have a compressor, search ebay for a 19.2V cordless 1/2" drive one, I have a Mac Tools one (sells for about $400 new, I got it used off the tool truck for $125. You could also chase a snap-on truck down and see if they have a used one.) Sure is easier than trying to get stuff like this off by hand!

Re: axle nut threading direction?
I've discovered my cheap Harbor Freight impact gun won't budge an axle socket, but the one I have at work, which is a Stanley branded Ingersoll-Rand IR231 (One of the most widely produced impact guns) that sells for ~$80 at Wal Mart, I got mine for $20 at an auction, will buzz pretty anything off, with shop air, it doesn't have as much oomph at my house with my little dinky compressor.
I use my cordless one for buzzing stuff off at the junkyard mostly, or if I'm at work and I don't feel like dragging an air hose around to do a tire rotation.
