SVX vs Forester, 1000 Miles, Who Gets Metter Mileage?

That's what I asked myself on Friday when my parents and I left home to drive me to school, me in the SVX, them in the Forester.

The Match-Up:

1992 SVX LS-L, one person inside, 4 stock wheels with winter tires, ~75 lbs of tools, misc stuff. 3.3L engine, heavy-weight car, 16 years old.

2005 Forester, two people, two laundry baskets full of clothes, an Ikea bed, cooler with food. 2.5L N/A engine, auto, much lighter car, new, 1/4 the mileage.

The tally:

SVX: just shy of 30 MPG (about 29.7-something)
Forester: 28 MPG.

BOOYA!!! Better aerodynamics, 3.54 gears, and not having to downshift going through the mountains wins the day for the SVX.

Good job!

In the long run I'm assuming the Forrester is still slightly more economical due to the usage of regular fuel vs. premium fuel? What are the differences in price per liter of gas in Canada?

Premium is typically about 12% more money. However, my parents have 2 Foresters, an 03 and the 05. The 03 has been in a couple accidents, and isn't quite as nice, so it's become something of the family beater. The 05 is much nicer, and gets treated better, which includes at least mid-range gas most of the time, so the bills were probably close to equal.

no lies. it's getting slightly better than my legacy did (22.946 over 12196 miles).

the 92 ebony svx still has all three other subies beat at 23.980 lifetime mpg....most of that on 85 octane regular fuel.
