resistor solenoid mod? - always in third

I finally pulled off the plug near the battery(the one sheathed by the steel plate)

It looks like Im in 3rd all the time, even when I have the slector on D?

I went on the highway and I still felt that I was in third, I floored it and felt like I was in second.

When i was on the street and floored it quickly, I felt barely any power at all, not at all the expect surge of torque im used to getting.

The hard fast shifts that I thought would happen when i did the mod doesnt seem all that bad, although just shifting while at a stand still produces clunks that I didnt have before.

The power light flashes only sometimes when I start the car(isnt it supposed to flash every time?)

Just wondering if anyone had the same occurence.

I did that mod at the drag strip the other day as well...hoping I could shave a half a second off or so. I had the same experiences. It would not (as far I could tell) hit 4th. I also had MUCH less grunt off the line than with the resistor in place. Also, as for the light, mine would blink at startup..then go away. After that...no matter how hard I stomped that pedal down, it would not indicate it was in power mode once so ever. Needless to say, it was not my favorite mod in any way...it got put back in before the next run.

Henry, the power light will flash at start-up as long as you have the resistor unplugged. The TCU sees it as a "failure" of duty solenoid "A". If you plug it back in, the light will simply come on at start-up, but not flash. The only time you should get a "flashing" power light at start-up is when the TCU is trying to tell you something's wrong.

tcu warning

Thats the odd thing. The tcu would not warn me evertime
I would have the resistor unplugged and get the blinking powerl light when I start up
about 1/2 the time. Other times it didnt blink at all, even though
the resistor was still unplugged. Made me feel as if I didnt do the mod exactly correctly, even though the plug is DEFINATELY unplugged from the resistor.

Sigh - I was disappointed when I tried the ecu crush mod(my 92 ecu is one of the "different" ones, no bead" and now the same with my TCU

<<my 92 ecu is one of the "different" ones>>

Just curious, Henry. What's your date of manufacture (on the plaque on the B pillar inside the driver's door).

One person I know of, had a mfg date of 6/91 and their ECU had no bead. Which, I may need to create another thread for this (maybe not), but, of those of you who've done the "bead crush," what are your MFG dates?

Something that was brought up in one of our online chats that I think is worth mentioning here is how the tranny freaks out when you drive with the selector in '3' with the resistor disconnected. Most notably when downshifting, it goes crazy. Yes, my resistor is now plugged in again
