Looks like burning oil is the prime suspect. I'd still expect a big blue cloud if you're going through 1 qt/240 miles. Have you had anyone drive behind you to see if you get smoke 1. all the time, 2. on acceleration, or 3. on deceleration (hard on the gas and then let off all at once making engine vacuum spike up). Each "option" will tell you something different about the root cause of the oil usage. Sorry you're having issues with the car, but burning oil is one of those things that can show up anytime after ~100k miles (sooner is you're really unlucky).

It has blue smoke on starting and I can see blue smoke in other peoples' headlights when accelearting. I haven't checked on deceleration. There is soot on the bumper rather quickly. 4 cylinders are said to have good compression. Why would 2 go all of a sudden.

That's funny, Tom said only the exhaust was rusty. We drove 6 hours without a radar detector and didn't get pulled over once. 6 hours is real fast from Philly to Boston, huh?

Your lack of knowledge of the car coupled with your incessant ranting and lack of respect for your car, this forum, and its members pisses me off.

Alright, before things go too out of hand here:

Is the purpose of this thread to try and figure out this oil situation, or to attack Tom?

Let's try to keep it productive, there has been enough e-ranting about this already.

Is the car undercoated/oil sprayed? That's what my suspension looks like, but with the undercoating and oil spray underneath the body itself is untouched. If there's no rust protection under that car it's in trouble.

Wow, I never saw these. So does this mean the car is not worth restoring?

Then why did Kristin just send me a text message telling me it was not her posting and that she wants her name banned so you cannot use it?

I don't know....

Maybe driving the tar out of it with the oil level low might not be cool??

Just a thought

So you complain about all these things on your car, yet you've never looked under it?

Well wasting the money on huge tires that didnt fit and lambo doors from a company who probably hasnt actually seen an SVX didn't help.

From the point of view of someone with similar rust:

If the body's good, everything else is replaceable, often with better stuff.

If the floorpan of the body is in trouble, it will cost you thousands, many thousands, to restore it.
