Forum trouble :(

I have been having weird issues with this forum lately:
I have been unable to send any PMs, when i try to it says that i am not logged in or unregistered and it doesn't accept my User Name and Password. I can't access my User CP. When I sign in it doesn't show that I've signed in, then i click on today's posts and it shows that i have logged in.

I don't know if anyone else is having these problems, or if the problem is on my end or not.

thanks for any help

I would try clearing all of your cookies.

I will look at your account too, but try the cookies thing.

I had been logged in, then could not post. Cleared the cookies. Took 2 attempts to log back in. There is something not working properly.

Chris, what's the timeout length on the log in cookies? I highly doubt there's something wrong there, but it might be something worth checking.

Hump and cdvs, you probably ought to clear your browser's caches and cookies and then try to log in again. The fact that your problem isn't really forum wide says that it's probably something client side (user side) related.

I will have to check into that...

Because it is not a site wide poblem, I would think it is on your side. I am not sure what it could be, but we will check into it.

I've been developing software for over 30 years. Standard non-response is to blame the user. This is more of the same.

Then here is one for you...

We are operating on 7 year old equipment.

We are running a version of SQL that is so old, we cant update the forum software.

Either and/or both of these could be part of the problem. But I guarantee you there is something on your end that is at least contributing to the issue. Because otherwise we would have 1500+ people complaining about the issue.

I, as long as I have been a member here (see signature) have never ONCE encountered an issue with the site.

We have new hardware, and are in the process of upgrading EVERYTHING. When that is complete, lets see if the problem persists.

Note that I said cache and cookies.

I've had something similar happen to me before on a different and public computer. It happened on NASIOC and the computer wasn't accepting the cookies from NASIOC's website. I never could figure out why that happened. I thought maybe it was a browser setting, but I never did check it.

Yeah, you said that, but cache has nothing to do with it.

What is this garantee worth? I might know more about the technology than you. Doesn't matter really, I know how to tell the difference and I didn't start this thread. I didn't change anything and the second attempt worked. It could be anywhere between there and here, lots of unknowns.

This should be considered as a report, not a finger pointing. Put the ego away for a minute, makes it easier to think.

The interweb has a well known history of misinterpretations as far as tone and delivery are concerned, at first I did see it as finger pointing, and at the same time did take partial responsibility. I am treating it as a report, but with that I am not going to invest large amounts of time researching this knowing that major changes are imminent.

One of the reasons I take most of your posts as hostile has to do with the manner that you joined the site, laid down many criticisms and then edited your posts with "gone, gone!", announced that you are leaving this site, only to stay. You are more than welcome to stay, but understand how some of the Admin staff might have taken your actions. First impressions truly are lasting ones, but time will always reveal the truth.

It has absolutely nothing to do with ego.

I am always aware that there are people out there that know more than I do. Lots of em as a matter of fact. That's one of the first things the Military taught me. It doesn't matter if someone has been in 20 years, or 20 seconds, there is a very good chance they both have something to teach you.

But that doesn't mean I don't know what I am talking about (I know that you didnt state this, but it is implied).

I find it very hard to believe that this would affect a very small group of users, if it was entirely 'our' fault. On the same token I would be an idiot to completely rule out the users end when considering the evidence at hand.

Let me say it again. I think there is a VERY good chance its at least 'partially' 'our' fault. I mean, look at what we are running on.

This is a ridiculous fabrication. The only thing I have ever criticized is the forum's search function.

I did this because I was being accused of exactly what you have repeated above. I never criticized anyone and especially not the SVX. I retained a copy of what I posted and if you were paying attention then, you would know this as well. I ended up being directly attacked for things others posted in the thread. When I realized that most posts to this forum are made by member's seeking only to increase their post count my immediate reaction was to sever all ties. I ask you directly, 'Is this what the forum was intended to be?'. I reconsidered because I concluded that the only way to fight this corruption of purpose was to make a contribution, so that's what I've tried to do.

As to the reported problems, all that can be inferred is that the server didn't get a cookie when it requested it, more than once, in a short time frame. You 'garanteed' me,

Either your knowledge doesn't extend to understanding, or something like ego prevented you from thinking it through. Can you admit that this garantee was unfounded?
