Steel rad hose failure p.s.a.

This picture was taken soon after install. It's about 1.5 in shorter now.

I know what you are thinking.

It is steel, how can it fail?

It took me a while to figure it out with coolant spraying everywhere.

I saw a video of an eg33 turning over, with the engine rocking side to side and it dawned on me.

The steel rad hose does not flex or move with the engine as it revs and turns over as a softer hose would.

The seal is further compromised by the awkward angle it sits in my engine bay, going around the ps pulley. The extremely long neck of the PWR rad compounds this problem.

I tried cutting the hose down to make it shorter. It helped, but the steel hose is ridged and makes permanent (I guess) indentations in the rubber connectors, so the seal is again compromised.

It was fine for about 8 months, then suddenly was no good.

Don't get this for your SVX.

Oh, Windows Vista dropped today.

We should boycott it until the price comes down.

Get silicone hose this time. Why would you get steel hose last time? Was it too hot to touch when the engine is hot?

I got it thinking I would never have to replace it, and I thought it complemented the shiny new radiator. It's a great hose, it just doesn't work in our car, at least not for long.

I would love to get silicon, but finding one will be hard. There are no silicon hoses imported for sale in Alaska.
