You could probably put the FWD fuse in (if you have Auto) and run it like that for a few days......but not any more than that.

Try www.car-part.com or contact Tomsvx to try and find a rear end. If I come across one I'll let you know.

Yes you can run it with no rear section of drive shaft....won't need to install the FWD fuse, as the front diff gets power all the time regaurdless.

(Won't work with a 5-speed)

Running without a rear drive shaft section will in no way harm the 4EAT....
It'll run EXACTLY like a FWD 4EAT with it removed.

(Flogging the crap out of it will though)

Thanks, the Merkur Forum thinks its the PCV on the XR4TI, but I'm not certain, and I had hoped to sell the darn thing today...

OK, if you get that diff. and need me to send you mine, let me know Tom.

Thanks everyone for your help... I hate my life

Hopefully my Trans. will get here this weekend as no car sucks worse than a FWD SVX................

I agree that running the car without a rear driveshaft would be fine for the transmission. Power is delivered to the front wheels through the reduction gearset in any case, so that's fine.

Huck hardly needs my agreement, but I have a question. Does the prop shaft somehow provide the seal for the tail end of the transmission? I seem to remember, both times I've removed the prop shaft from a 4EAT, that a little ATF came out with it. Was this just down to worn seals?

you MUST keep the front half of the driveshaft in place... This is if you have a 2 piece shaft... If not, you are out of luck and you need to wait

Yes the front yoke seals the tranny, but you can remove the rear section (if you have a 2 piece driveshaft) and leave the front section in.
If you have the one piece driveshaft with the CV in the middle...it won't work, as you need the front section to seal the tranny up, as you said.

Thaaaat's what I thought. I just wanted to make sure the poor guy didn't try it and wonder why his car was smoking so badly and stopped moving a mile later.

Oh, and this thread is in the wrong forum. I'll move it, but please post in the appropriate forum in the future. Thanks.
