EJ25 swap in SVX?

Destroyed my tranny in my AWD SVX not too long ago. Can I swap in an EJ25?

i don't think an engine can replace a transmission.

I think he wants to know if he can use the trans that resides "behind" an EJ25???

If that is the question. the answer is "Maybe"

AT or MT??
What year is the donor?

Dope! My bad, I meant a tranny from a legacy with an EJ25. I need to replace my tranny and need to know exactly which ones will swap in and what all needs to be done. I can find the Legacy trannies easy enough, so I wanted to know if they were direct swaps?

Up to MY 98 or so will fit. The easy way to identify the change in AT's is after 98 there is an external Spin-on filter and no brake band adjustment.

Prior to that you can grab anything off of a Imp or Legacy, but you'll also need to pull a matching rear differential of a Legacy, and swap the internals with the stock SVX rear diff.

There's many posts on the subject, and I think Tom "SVXfiles" has a link in his signature with instructions for the swap...

Why can't I simply swap the tranny? Why do the rear gears have to be swapped?

The final ratio in the SVX front and rear diff is 3.545, In an Imp/Leg it will be either 3.9, 4.11 or 4.44. If you change the transmission/front diff to one of those ratios and leave the stock rear diff, you're not gonna be happy...
