Where else are PS leaks from?

OK, our leaking PS pump was recommended to be changed out for new at the dealer for about $700. Only 51k on the car, anywhere else it can be leaking from aside from the O ring? They didn't offer to change the O ring of course.

Sometimes the rack itself leaks. Not very often though.

I will take this time though to mention again...going to the stealership is a very bad idea. They will come with all kinds of ways to part you from your money. I mean, a new PS pump itself is only 250 or so...if that. 500 in labor? I think not.

only 51k?? Wanna trade? ...alot of dealers arent that familiar with an SVX. IF any of them are its usually one guy who owns one... good luck

The high pressure outlet on the PS pump can leak. The seal gets pretty hard and brittle after a while. The pump can leak out of the pulley input shaft. The pump is fully rebuildable, and the parts are less than $100. If you call up Jason at 1stsubaruparts.com, he'll help you spec out the rebuild parts. 866 528 5282.

Great replies as usual. Went to the dealer for a diagnosis-I rarely let them do any work on it as it's usually normal graft prices. This dealer lately has been even missing diagnoses.

And the owner's wife has an svx L so they're quite in touch with svx's thankfully. They seem to have a new or different service mgr who is a sourpuss and seems to belittle owner's workups or self diag. of their own cars when you drop them off for work. Odd, because they're well regarded and Sube only small dealer.

Are there any places to buy decently rebuilt units already?
