New F1 design

A new rear wing regulation has been proposed on F1 cars to smooth the airflow and allow cars to follow close behind in fast corners

Also, what do people think about the new higher reving V8 engine that's coming out in '06?

I'm really going to miss the sound of the exotic V10!

Here's an article on the Mercedes-Benz...

...test of the new 2.4L V8:

They're saying power is down about 200bhp!

I dunno what the FIA is doing with the formula 1 world, but in my opinion? It is scr*wing things up either through stupid design wings or slower engines...

Did anybody hear in the automotive industry that the newer generation of a certain car is slower than the earlier one???

Things are sure gettin worse!!! What's next in 10 years? 1.5cyl F1 engine and 0.5L???

Formula 1 is about evolution. In 1989 you had the choice to run a 3.5L NA V-8 or a 1.5L Turbo motor. Anything that improves competition is OK with me. On a side note, anyone have the 2006 driver/manufactor line up?

formula one is now a shell of what it used to be. there are too many rules and regulations. the cars should only have to pass safety tests, ie. run what you brung.

That would great, i couldent even imagine the times that some companies would put down with no restrictions. 2000hp AWD f1 cars woo.

I reread about this new wing thing, well even though the cars will appear aweful in design, they will have better stability and less risk that the follower losses control when trying to pass the others by. this space between the wings is destined to let some air flow to the following car letting her take advantage of it to downforce the car to the ground.

The old design makes air pass over the following car, which is not taking advantage of it and makes it more risky to loose control on either turns/sudden braking/try to pass...

Even though this thing is on behalf of design, i think it is better to be the safer...

engine regulations are a bummer. the wing design is a good idea, though. it will be intresting to see what kind of down force they can get, even though they can overadjust those winglets to get a similar downforce as before, i imagine that it will also increase drag.
