Best subaru engine to modify

Which engine is the best to modify 1.8 , 2.0 , 2.2 , 2.5 , or 3.3 ? Input is appreciated

Actually the 2.0 is the easiest, cheapest and by far has the largest aftermarket!! The aftermarket for the 2.5 is still growing. Subaru hasn't developed the 2.5 as much as the 2.0 (which is the only engine they use in WRC racing).

ok, easiest and cheapest *for the most power and torque*

plenty of aftermarket turbo, exhaust, management, and intercooling apps for the 2.5L.

2.0G...you can stick twin turbo's on it.

EJ22T has one of the strongest blocks ever to come out of Japan (mate that with 2.5 heads and damn..you got a racer there).

I wouldn't recommend the 2.5's...they burn up.

I suppose having less mass and moving parts gives small turbo engines an advantage over large NA blocks,
but you can still put a huge turbo on a large NA block and have far greater potential for power. :/
