dash light for e-brake
the dash light for the e-brake ("BRAKE" in red) stays on even if the e-brake is not set. it either refuses to go off or goes off and then re-lights after driving a short way. i've even left the car in the garage with the e-brake off, started the car, driven off and had the dash light come on by itself. suggestions? anyone else have / had gremlins with the dash light for the e-brake? thx in advance. (the '97 outback is doing the same thing...)

Open the brake fluid resevoir cap and close it. The light should go away. Check the brake fluid level as well.

This seems to happen often (try a search). Most people usually add a few drops of brake fluid and the light goes away.

Brake light in dash
Hi everyone, I came across this somewhere. I always added brake fluid when I checked and it was low, with out a light. I read that this is bad because if you would let it go, when it did send a signal to turn on the warning light it was really telling you that the pads had worn enough to cause the fluid leval to go down. So this is really teling you to check your pads when the check brakes comes on. It takes a lot of will power to not "top up" the brake fluid reservoir. Take care, BOBB

Even in the owners manual it says a brake light in the dash indicates low fluid...i dont think it would appear if your pads were low.

Light
Hi soobiesvx93, That was my point. As the pads wear down, the fluid goes to make up for the pad wear. So when the pads have worn down enough to set off the check light you might need new pads. When you put new pads you will push the fluid back into the reservoir and turning off the light. Take care, BOBB
