Irratic motorized seat belt
My driver's motorized shoulder belt sometimes stays in the rear position for several seconds after the door has been opened, before motoring to the forward position. Operation is normal if I leave the engine on until I open the door. This was first noticed when I picked up my car after having the front oil seals, timeing belt, high pressure power steering hose and EGR solenoid replaced. The seat belt light does not seem to blink abnormally and there is no abnormal buzzing. I disconnected the battery for a while to try to reset things without success. Any advice? Thanks. Bill Z

Mine does the same thing. I think there is some highly technical electrical gremlin that causes this (do a search), so I just open the door before I shut the car off... Does your passenger side belt move ok?

It's just sticking. Just give the mechanism a little push outward (towards the window) and it will move.

I will try pushing it outwards; but if it is just sticking, why would it work fine with the ignition on? I'm not sure about the passenger side, I'll have to check. Does yours work? Earthworm, did you have this problem? Did you effect a permanent fix. Thanks for everyone's help. Bill Z

Thanks EW. Well, the passenger side works fine. Now the driver's side will only work when the key is on. With the key off, no amount of persuasion will get it to move. So over a week or so, it has gone from working intermittently with a delay, to now not at all, unless the key is on. I continue to appreciate all suggestions. Bill Z

Yes, my thought too, or a poor contact, but which one would allow operation with the key in the on position but not when off? Thanks. Bill Z

There is a huge thread somewhere on this topic. The problem seems to be a very complex glitch in the relay system...Do a search and you'll come upon it...

I wish I could find that thread. My searchs for "stuck, seat belts" have been largely unrewarding. I appreciate your help. Bill Z

It's your seatbelt control board that has gone bad. It located directly below your rear-wiper. New ones are around $250. It is indeed a bad relay but it is not replaceable. Just get yourself a new computer.

oh yeah I believe I am the one who started that "long thread" so do a search on my posts and you should find it. All the answers are in there. Maybe somebody should sticky that.
