Exclamation Two Problems... (Beav Help?)

1. When I am backing up out of a parking spot and turning either way my car 'jumps' if you will, it feels like the wheel is gonna fall off, its NOT transmission jumping, it POPS and shifts as if the lug nuts were loose (no they arent, I checked).

2. No AWD for me, FWD only... its not the fuse, I think my rear diff is a big empty space of ground up gears, how can I confirm this?

1. not sure maybe the CV joint? if it was the front differential it would do it straight line too.

2. Can you get both back wheels in the air? Put it in neutral and spin a wheel while listening for bad noises.

Caveat: don't crawl under there with just jacks holding it up please.

1. Doubtfull that its a CV, but maybe something else under there... the right CV is about 3 months old... and it does it either direction... tie rods maybe?

2. I only have one jack, and nowhere to work on it either... to further describe it, say I am going down the road at about 50 mph and I let off the gas... it almost feels like I am braking for about .5 second. There is also a sound that goes something like 'shhhhhhhh' and you can 'feel' that sound in the gear selector.

Significant Technical Input
Sorry, I just saw this post for the first time. I miss a few occasionally.

Have you tried putting the fuse in just to see if it makes a difference? If it's only pulling on the front wheels it sounds as though you may have transfer clutch issues. Inserting the fuse might allow you to confirm this if the popping goes away, plus it could eliminate chasing shadows elsewhere. Otherwise I'd just go to a local garage, etc. that has a hoist that can lift the car completely off the ground and check for loose/worn suspension, axles, etc. While it's on the hoist you can run it in gear and check to see if it is actually AWD or not. Good luck!

Unfortunately I cannot put the fuse in... a previous owner "melted" that fuse position.

The popping is in no way transmision related. on a recent drive home I noticed a knocking of something in the front of the car when traversing bumps in the road. I fear its something in the suspension.

Transfer clutches, yuck, that just sounds expensive. Any thoughts on cost short of me calling my mechanic?

I am at a point where my SVX is finally paid off and if I cant get it fixed or find an affordable lease or something she may have to get traded in on a new vehicle. I do NOT want to get rid of her as she is an Anniversary Edition. But finances may prove to be a problem, and with the impending maintenance costs with this being my daily driver really puts me in a bad position.

I have to add this little bit, I see a silly post about an idividual ranting about how he hates most people here. Yet me, a loyal SVX Member back from the Yahoo days just after the Liberty State Park meet cant get more than 3 replies to a REAL NEED of assistance, and he receives about 50 replies almost as worthless as the original post. Very disheartening this is...

Chris,
I apologise for, at least, not acknowledging your post, though, I wouldn't have been much help. I have not been as active lately, mainly due to the "individual ranting about how he hates most people here."

Hope all works out for you. Consider: Repair costs on a paid off car, versus payments on an new one. Keep "Precious." See you at Reading IV.
