I didn't know they had a tool for that. We'll if it is a headgasket problem it's not that big of a deal for me cus I've done one before on a svx.

Just go through testing the cap and make sure you burped the system correctly. Also a cap from a dealer or online is cheap enough ensure a working cap.

Re: Strange over heating
Definitely sounds like the HG at this point. Exhaust/combustion gases enter the coolant chambers pushing the coolant into the reservoir.

Re: Strange over heating
Or... test it the other way.. pressurize the cooling system, if it leaks down, but doesn't leak out of the car...
After that test, if it leaks pressure, but there's no visible leak of coolant, you'll probably get a good whiff of it out the tail pipe when you start her back up. The rough explanation would be that when you were running, the head gasket leaked just enough to push coolant into the reservoir. But, when the system cooled, instead of sucking coolant back into the system, it sucked air from the leak in the head gasket from the cylinder back into the cooling system, leaving the expelled coolant in the overflow. |

Btw can the thermostat be installed backwards? Or does it only fit in one way?

Re: Strange over heating
The thermostat goes in the correct way only. It is possible to put the bleed nipple down, which is not correct. T

Re: Strange over heating
You think that could cause my problems?

Re: Strange over heating
No, I think you have a head gasket issue. T

Re: Strange over heating
The bleeder nipple not being in the correct configuration ( up ) .. might make bleeding all the air out of the system problematic, or, impossible ( worst case ), but, it would not cause the system to not pull coolant back down from the reservoir. That issue speaks clearly to the system not being "sealed" or "closed", and therefore not creating the vaccuum necessary to pull coolant back into the system.
Also, your rad shop declared that the rad was plugged.. It's not possible that deposits were ONLY in the radiator.. scaling in the block / passages / heater core / etc., may be the point of localized boiling and restriction.. Hose connections ( though not commonly the cause ) can also be suspect... just because they don't leak under pressure, doesn't mean they don't leak under vaccuum.. Not common... but not impossible.. at a lower pressure level than the rad cap... And.. I hate to say it.. but I've seen threads where the problem was the cap.. it had to do with it's "ears" and how the hood closed.. seriously.. |

Re: Strange over heating
Yeah headgasket. I did a coolant pressure test. Took it to 16lbs and with in a few min it had lost all it's pressure
Pm me if anyone has new Headgaskets or valve cover gaskets. Thanks for all your guys input and help I appreciate it.
