Tire Recommendation:

Hi, I was going to order some continental dws but i heard that don't have the greatest handling. I came across these that have the almost the same tread pattern they are the Yokohama YK580 they are suppose to have low rolling resistance so they would get good gas mileage.

Re: Tire Recommendation:

I'm assuming you plan on running these this winter since you are going to order them now.
You probably don't want a lecture on the benefits of winter tires but in Minnesota...

Re: Tire Recommendation:

I put Continental DWS's on my SVX, and like their grip way better than the Goodyear's (don't remember the model, sadly) on my Impreza.

I'm not a tire guru though, so I can't really tell you much more.

Re: Tire Recommendation:

Yeah, if you are going to run these in winter in MN, don't. Buy a cheap set of spare rims and Blizzaks. Run those in the winter and an all-season tire with good wet braking and cornering performance in the summer.

For those who run all-seasons in the winters in slightly milder locations, the DWS is a good choice from what I have read.

Re: Tire Recommendation:

I had the older version of the extreme contacts on my impreza and they were a much better tire than the stock potenza.. not that is saying much.

I have no experience with the new tread design. Mine were a symmetrical pattern.

It pissed me off they switched these out with the new tread pattern.. I liked these footprints..

Re: Tire Recommendation:

Dedicated snow tires really are nice! You may also consider the alternate sizes of 215/55/16 or 205/55/16 very close to 225/50/16 circumference, better in snow, softer ride...
Im using Hankook EVO iCept tires this winter on the SVX, nice compromise of qualities, good price from Direct Tire.
