new auto tranny, same problem: no 3rd and 4th speed

ok guys, I did it, change my tranny by another one I found in ebay.
same problem: only 1st and 2nd works... battery has been disconnected from the car for more than 2 months but may be the TCU keept some trouble codes and does not let the tranny to go on.
there's no intermintent power ligth.
Is there any way to reset the TCU? I refuse to believe the new tranny have the same problem so I would think the problem was the TCU from the beguining.
aob au, any idea?

If there's no 3rd and 4th, this transmission also has a failed high clutch.

Well it is either the TCU or a failed high clutch.
Try unplugging the trans plug on the left side of the trans, see if it will start in 3rd, if so, it is the TCU, if not the High clutch has gone.

Harvey.

thanks harvey. You must be so busy with all the trans problems we can see here lately.
I finish completing the antifreeze level and put the car down on the floor for the first road test and guess what? all the speeds worked great!
Looks like I mistake the speeds change sensation... while testing the car on the air and still cold. panic!.
sorry.
but still would like to know: left side is driver side?
thank you very much.
have you ever consider install a micro plc to make a 4EAT sequential speed change with a switch "auto-sequential"?
where are you located? may be I can visit you and prepare one of this together...
I'm in montreal and I know about micro PLC's...

It would be a bit strange for both box's to have a high clutch problem. So you are right to go.
Yes the left side, sitting in the drivers seat. The right side plug goes to the selector inhibitor switch, left goes to the electrical solenoids.

Funny you should say this. I did this a while ago to use in my car as I have no right arm, and changing gears in the twists was not easy, used a pair of buttons on the wheel. There are just too many connections to the TCU to make it an option.
As Blacky says, I am in Aust.

Harvey.

Now your signature finally makes sense to me. I've seen that a million times and never stopped to think about what it meant.

Yep, me too. Never could figure out quite a polite way to ask.

Actually that gives me an idea for a thread.

Bloke means a guy, a dude, a lad, one of the boys. It's a British, Aussie, Kiwi (New Zealand) term.

Harvey.
Too bad you are so far away. So you did it already! Is it still working? May be you want to explain to me what are the outputs from the PLC and when should all of them work. I understand some of them are analog. What are the maximun voltages and current? I need to know the philosophy of the tranny operation.
thanks harvey.
Jose.
