"4th" brake light idea

So, i have an idea for a "4th" brake light lol

i dont know if anyone has tried to do this but i think what im gonna do is try and use one from a truck...the ones the put between the tailgate and the bumper or i will just use a long LED strip.

i also dont know if this is legal or not but i just wanted to get some opinions or suggestions.

the picture shows where it would go just between the tail pipes in that little grove below the bumper.

thanks in advance

Jared

I think its and interesting idea, heck if you can make each half blink with the turn signals, like some of the trucks have that your getting the idea from.
When I first saw the title I thought you planned to put a led strip in the spoiler, like many cars have.

Re: "4th" brake light idea

no no yeah I have seen those all over the place but I have never heard of anyone doing this and I have always wanted to do something with that little grove down there...it is like begging me lol

The only thing im having trouble with visualizing is where to run the wires and to hook it up to. I was thinking of running a wire all the way up to the fuse box and hooking it up with the brake lights...but then I dont think it would blink with the turn signals

Well it'll be unique, that's for sure.

There is pure brake lights in the trunk lid and you can pick up the wiring for them on the passenger side.

No different than my trailer light hook up. Comes off the tail lights in the trunk left side and one goes to the right for the right blinker

I like this idea and think it'll look awesome.

Make sure to post pics when your done.. Btw, your not going to just use 3m tape and sick it on there are you? Or are you going to dremel out that part and stick it in there?

Wouldn't go as far as "awesome"...
However, I do think it would be a nice addition.

No I have done the 2 sided tape thing on the outside before and it doesnt really last I think what im gonna end up doing is probably use some screws to fasten it down...cus if im not mistaken I believe the light bar im looking at has the holes for it already but I wont know exactly until I get the light. Whats your suggestion? All are welcome

Oh and thanks for the wiring spots too!

Re: "4th" brake light idea

UPDATE!!

i found a light bar with reverse lights and turn signals included!!

i think im just gonna go with the reverse lights though i havent decided its only like $20 difference from the standard to the reverse and amber turn signals...but i think the reverse with just the red signals will be ok.

its $55 plus shipping for the light bar with reverse lights and brake lights that double as the turn signals.....NO AMBER TURN SIGNALS

Re: "4th" brake light idea

UPDATE!

havent posted on this in awhile other things have been deemed more serious lol and this has been put on the back burner....BUT i have found out that i cannot use any light bar that is currently made for a pick up...they are all too long and i cant modify them or else they wont work at all....so i have found 3 separate LED bars that i can mount and splice into the rear lights...this way i will have brake lights and turn signals separate and it will be a lot cheaper than a light bar!

I was actually thinking of doing something similar, but I wanted to mount some red lights hidden underneath where my exhaust used to be (through the bumper or around it, I dunno) and have them shine at the ground when I hit the brakes. Would look pretty awesome in the snow and help get people's attention to the fact I am stopping.

I've considered all kinda of LED solutions but not much can be done tastefully. A flexible LED strip inside the rear windshield might be ok (horizontally or even vertically).

I was also thinking of doing something a little more crazy like installing a flasher inline with my reverse lights for a strobe effect.
