Thumbs up GrimmSpeed Thermal Intake Manifold Spacers

Anyone be interested in these? They are one of the best mods I did to my EJ25 and figure I'd spread the love for Justin. "Thermal spacers lift the intake manifold off the super heated engine to lessen the transfer of heat. Both the intake manifold and engine block are aluminum so the high heat transfers very quickly....well these spacers stop that. The cooler the intake charge the more HP and TQ your engine will make.

In addition to cooling your intake charge, these will also give you larger intake volume similar to that of a throttle body spacer." Trying to see if enough interest to warrant production and or group buy.

I don't see a listing on their website for the SVX, but Outlaw Engineering has a set for the SVX already. I don't have them, so I can't comment. I wonder how the people who have them like them.

I have Outlaw plenum and T.B. spacers on my car and don't really see any benefit. svxfiles has them and says they help his intake stay cool, but I can't touch my intake after the car has run more than 10 minutes cause it is too hot.

I was trying to see what interests there was for Justin at GrimmSpeed. If enough interest he'd run a set. I have a set on my EJ25 and noticed my intake was cooler after a 45 mile romp at highway+ speeds (was actually able to touch my intake with out leaving my finger tips). Does also help on torque a little bit and upper rpm power as well (granted all through the butt dyno though).

You can already get these from Outlaw, you just have to call them. Yes, they do work. I drove from OT's house to mine (~3hours) and could put my hand on the top of the intake without burning my hand (okay, so I also have a true ram air system on my car).

Strangely, I see no reference towards bypassing the water connection, which in affect largely fixes inlet manifold temperature.

Trevor,
Good point. You can order the phenolic spacer that goes between the TB (heated by the water connection) and the intake from Outlaw to go along with the spacers that go between the intake and the injector stacks.

Actually the new kit comes with a bypass for this water heater too, kinda a good kit and it is less than a hundred bucks, I think I paid $89 for mine.

I had already bypassed mine so when I got this kit it took me half an hour to figure out what the extra pieces were for. OK, I confess I actually had to call OT to see what the parts were for.

Outlaw Engineering has two choises for the SVX.
You can order three or five pieces.
The three piece set has the upper intake to "spider" pair with the throttle body set, or for those of you that have the time, a five piece set, that includes the former, plus the head to intake stack.

If you drag race/race/autocross, the five piece set is what you want.
It's just alot more work to install.
I have recorded 140f temps on my ceramic coated intake manifold, on a 100f degree day, with the Outlaw Phenolic Manifold spacers.
Three inches below the manifold, the top of the engine block was at 200f degrees.

Re: GrimmSpeed Thermal Intake Manifold Spacers

Gonna beat this dead horse as I was looking about on grimmspeeds website and seen that they now offer ported intake manifolds and port&polished throttle bodies. How much would these benefit on a stock motor? OT?

Yes.
I have ported and polished my throttle body and intake manifold, along with my now four piece OutLaw Phenolic Spacer set up.
(Took out the TB spacer as I could not see a reason for it.)
Our intake manifold to stack to head "fitting" is already very good!
Not much to be found there.
The TB to spyder is not as good, but better than most.
Unless I did it myself, I would pass/not bother.
