GI: STi 6 speed trans, blown 5th gear

A friend of mine who is a Subaru technician picked up a STi transmission with a blown 5th gear with the intention of fixing it up and selling it but its been a while and he never found the time or money to do it so he asked me if I wanted it, I drooled for a minute but turned him down since I already have my 5 speed and every part of the conversion and I'm too broke to buy more stuff. He asked me to list it for him on NASIOC since hes a domestic guy and has no account there, but I thought I'd ask here first.

Asking 900 for it.

If your interested let me know, he told me exactly whats wrong with it and what it needs but I'll have to go check my PM again. I remember he quoted me 400 bucks to fix it, if thats true you can get a 6 speed transmission for less than half what they're going for on NASIOC.

I just sent him a PM about it so I'll let you now what he says. Here is what he said was needed to fix it:

Quote:
it needs 5th gear and 5th gear balk ring and a bearing.

Unfortunately it will end up in a 2005 Legacy GT. At least I am keeping it in the family

I've thought about doing that on my 2005.

But with dampers failing, and wanting to put bilsteins on... wanting a 6MT, and wanting folding rear seats... and all that stuff...

I am seriously considering just buttoning up the car with normal replacement dampers and oe springs, then trading my 05 GT Limited for an 07-08 Spec B... The only downside is that I would lose the pretty garnet red paint, in favor of ubiquitous silver, or dark charcoal.... 2009 Spec Bs that came in more than just two colors are still pretty expensive, compared to the resale of my 05 GT.

And it would probably mean a car payment again, for at least a little while.
