I used 2 aftermarket ones I bought on Ebay for $25.00 each. A year later and they are still working just great.

Re: 02 sensors =genuine vs universal lol

Aftermarket sensors suck. I've been working on japanese cars for 10 years and it's like a 50/50 chance you'll get one that will respond fast enough to keep the computer happy, and even if they do they won't for long on OBD II vehicles. OBD I model years 92-95 are not capable of detecting oxygen sensor response accuracy or time, so a lazy sensor will cause the fuel trim (injector on time adjustment) to be off which will decrease fuel economy and make the engine not run it's best, but the computer won't be any the wiser.

Oxygen sensors that are of high quality are expensive to make, that's why they cost what they do. Newer cars have a type of oxygen sensor that costs three times what these do.

Re: 02 sensors =genuine vs universal lol

So is subaruparts the best place to get these? I have a 96 so it sounds like I definitely need OEM. I'm throwing a code for the rear sensor. I wouldn't guess they are too terrible to replace on your own are they?

The night before you intend to replace the sensor, hose it down generously with penetrating oil..... the exhaust you save may be your own. You can then hose the oil off w/brakekleen after the job is done so it doesnt have to burn off.

Re: 02 sensors =genuine vs universal lol

my 96 has been doing that(code) for a year now.rear sensor bank 1 i put in a bosch oe sensor and it still says it's too slow.i guess nifty must be right. let us know if it solves your problem. i paid about 80.00 so i don't want to throw it out but my gas mileage is off a couple mpg's so it may be better if i do.

Re: 02 sensors =genuine vs universal lol

Yeah just keep in mind the O2 is the last word in fuel mileage, as it is the only thing telling the ECU how well its engine management is functioning. Over the life of an O2, a negative difference of 2 mpg will easily surpass an OEM sensor in total cost. Universal may be cheaper now but it will cost you in the long run, especially if it kicks on the MIL and you cant return it since its an electrical part.
