how much power loss from age?

the stock engines are 230hp at the crank (not sure at the wheels)
but how much power would be lost when having 260,000 KMs on it

Re: how much power loss from age?

Good question. If you have seen "Top Gear" (BBC), they often ask this question about older supercars. Generally, a Dyno-meter has to be involved to accurately discover how many horses have escaped over the years/miles.

Each engine would have it's own set of numbers though, I can't imagine there is a general amount that could be quoted.

Re: how much power loss from age?

Most engines gain power after break in and then decline very slowly. If the compression is up to spec and valve seals are good etc. there should be very small loses.
On a dyno your HP numbers can be very depressing especially with an AWD. On my 4x4 GMC truck the drop is well over 30% from crank to wheel HP.

Re: how much power loss from age?

On an uncorrected dynodynamics dyno, most subarus show a ~30% drivetrain loss.

i.e. a 300hp STI dynos at 215whp
