Question THUMP when slowing to a stop

Almost every time I stop at a light, as im nearing a full stop, I hear a slight thud and kind of feel it in the floorboards. Theres nothing in the trunk or anything that could be rolling around..... almost seems like the transmissions doing it shifting back into first. Has anyone had this symptom in their transmission? The tranny shifts just fine and I have no other issues with it.....

Re: THUMP when slowing to a stop

Any similar symptoms shifting into Reverse or into D while stopped? Worn/shot trans mount reacting to downshift as your speed slows?

Check to see if you are missing any bolts on your cross members.

I get a thud at low speeds that I can feel in the brake pedal sometimes but I just wrote that off as bad ball joints that I recently removed/unremoved that are flopping around.

I'm going to guess that these are his ball joints. Any rubber left on them?

Re: THUMP when slowing to a stop

Does the thump occur about 5 seconds after the complete stop? I had that issue in my first tranny when the transfer clutch was acting up.

Re: THUMP when slowing to a stop

Its just before coming to a full stop. Ball joints eh? Yeah ill have to check those, hadnt thought of that. Thats way better than a trans problem.

I have the same problem, no one has been able to properly diagnosis it. I've pretty much just learned to live with it

Ball joints have rubber on them

Maybe referring to the grease seals?

I wouldn't guess rubber but I might check the cv shafts.

Re: THUMP when slowing to a stop

Do you still get the sound if you slip transmission into N and coast to a full stop? If so I think you could probably eliminate you tranny as a possible cause.

I took it out of teh bag just so I could show you.

In the case of my car, I removed the ball joints for whatever reason, probably to remove the axles, and the black thingy was completely crushed on both units. I didn't have the new ones at the time so I reinstalled them but they did not go in quite the same way they came out so there was a little slack, causing a clunk-clunk sound whenever I exit my driveway over the drainage channel.
I would venture to say it's possible this slack could open by itself in the right conditions.

I don't get any sound or feedback on flat roads, so... don't rule out your tranny just yet.
