Hard to move gear shifter

As the weather gets colder the gear shifter gets very hard to move. Is there some place that needs lubrication or is this an internal problem?

at the base of the shifter under the car... There is a plastic bushing where the cable attaches to the linkage... This can be lubricated but sometimes it is the cable itself that may need replacing

Tom, is this something I can do by jacking up the car or is it more involved? Thanks

If you have good aim with a spray can that has a straw on it, jacking up the car should be enough
