tips for putting emblem on fiberglass hood
I've been trying to decide if I want to keep the hood on my Red 95 emblem-less or not. I decided to go ahead and put it on. Anyone have any tips for putting the Alcyone emblem on a fiberglass hood without risking damaging the hood. (no holes are drilled on the hood) Earl should chime in because I know his blue svx with the same hood has the Alcyone emblem.
Thanks.

Re: tips for putting emblem on fiberglass hood
I have a few silver vinyl "Alcyone" symbols that I had made extra when I got one made for the racer. It is the same size as the "alcy" hood badge, but weighs less
Not as classy as the "pretty badge" but every gram counts

Re: tips for putting emblem on fiberglass hood
a tape measure and dry erase marker are going to be your friend here. measure across the front of he hood in multiple spots to get a center line, then measure from the leading edge of the hood where you want the emblem (a hood w/ the emblem already on it is a good refrence)
At this point, you need to decide weather you want to drill holes n the hood, or break the pins off the emblem. If its the holes in the hood, you may want to try a bit of nail polish...Put a dab on the ends of the emblem pins, and touch it to the hood where you want it...the nail polish will leave a perfect template of where to drill -Eric |

Re: tips for putting emblem on fiberglass hood
you could do the above, except use a piece of stiff paper or cardboard (like a beer box), then cut this out to the same shape as the emblem and put it on the hood where you want the emblem and see how it looks, then when you get it where you want it, use it as a template to drill the holes. Best to use a new, sharp drill bit, and don't drill too fast to avoid melting the fiberglass.

Re: tips for putting emblem on fiberglass hood
I don't remember if I drilled holes, or just used the double sticky tape.

Re: tips for putting emblem on fiberglass hood
I'll probably just stick it on there to avoid the risks of cracking by drilling. Better safe than sorry. I'll post pics when I get around to putting the emblem on the hood. Thanks guys!

Re: tips for putting emblem on fiberglass hood
Surprise! I actually got a chance to put the emblem on the hood today. What do you think? I think it gives the car more of a "finished" look.
Before: After: I ended up sticking it on there rather than drilling holes. I was too worried about cracking the fiberglass. Thanks again everyone.
