Speed sensor passes the test but is bad??

Just did a front diff swap on a 94 FWD. I put in a diff from a 95 Legacy.

Now no speedo?? The plastic gears in the diff are good, they didn't turn with a screw driver and with the car on the hoist in gear it spins. I put a drill on the sensor and the speedo goes up.

What gives????

When I turn the sensor by hand I don't feel the clicks like the Legacy sensor.

Any ideas?

Did you hook up the rear speed sensor?

The rear one is hard wired and internal on a FWD car.

Is the sensor suppose to click when you turn it? Are you suppose to beable to pull the part that turns out of the sensor?

This is the speed sensor on the passenger side of the tranny? By the front diff?


On the plug, check each wire for voltage between chassis ground. My wire harness produced 12VDC (Red with Orange) 0 (Black, Ground) and 9.5VDC (Yellow with Orange, Pulse).

I think so, I just removed mine and the square shaft stayed in the bell housing. My sensor did not click.

I sawed off an Allen wrench and stuck in into the sensor and turned it with a drill both ways and it did nothing to the speedo, unlike your case.

To make sure it was not something else, I plugged a 12VDC speed sensing computer fan into the plug, matching the pulse, ground and 12V wires. The fan spun up with the ignition on and the speedo went to 60.
