It is a related car - Subaru - and a Ford or Chevy is not. There have been others post here about Subarus and they have not been moved. If it was other than a Subaru, I may have moved it.

It doesn't say "SVX ONLY TECHNICAL Q&A" in the forum name, so yes, you can ask questions about any type of car here.

At least it's a Subaru, most users here own more than one Suby.

There's something to be said about a fear of dilution of the forum. It's the classic slippery slope, for sure, but it can definitely be a problem.

For example, if every Subaru issue were to arrive here, we'd have... NASIOC.

That's quite extreme, but few people are interested in filtering through additional material when looking for material related to their car on a forum which just happens to have said car's name in its own!

Is this forum being plagued by this? No... at least not yet.

Is there a better place to have addressed this question? Apologies, but yes. Surfing over to NASIOC and searching "flashing cruise" spits out more than one page of results. It would have saved us all from being subject to this discussion, besides.

i thought the "OT" in the title covered that....the title even states that nick's question is about an ootback. if i wasn't a newer subaru owner, i probably wouldn't have even clicked on the link.

So I'm clear: I neither showed support for nor decried the posting of the question here. I offered the (correct! ) answer, I explained why I think it incited a wedgie or two, and that's all. Admins make the call, chips fall where they may, see what else is going on. Ibtl?

There's no need for a lock on this thread. Since the World Network was opened in 2001 it was made evident that this is a site for SVX enthusiasts, but all car owners are welcome here. People have been asking questions on other cars they own in this forum for the 7 years this site has been up, and everybody has seemed to be fine with that.

If the consensus has changed, then somebody should put up a poll and let the members vote on it. Bickering in a thread isn't going to settle much.

My point is that there IS a forum to ask that type of question here---NOT EXACTLY SVX.

The other point is that there is a separate set of rules for admins/insiders versus just plain ordinary members.

I just wanted to make it clear that anyone could post about other cars in ANY of the threads on here. Subaru "related" can cover a lot of territory. Most members on here that have other cars (even Subarus) use the not SVX thread.

Guess my main problem is the separate set of standards that have been applied over time.

On this topic for me, its the "so what" factor.

Actually after my initial posting, I fully expected to log in the next day or so and see that it had been moved without fanfare or comment. But--it ended in a posting contest---one post removed by admin was really provocative--and not mine.

Actually I am somewhat surprised that several posts each week are not moved without comment or fanfare. Gentle policing does wonders to foster proper posting. ( and keeps old farts like me from getting on my soapbox)
