Is it giving a CEL? If so check the codes.

My mass air meter did that to me and it didnt throw any codes.

If your not getting a check engine light try lightly tapping on it. but check for codes first.

Do you hear the fuel pump running when you turn the key on?? Fold your rear seat down to make it easier to hear it. You should hear an electric motor run for about 5 seconds after you turn the key to ignition(not crank).

I had the same symptoms and replaced my MAF which fixed the issue 100%. Motor ran like a champ afterwards (well until my knock sensor went!).

the stab in the dark answer is going to be MAF but you should still find a way to make sure you have fuel pressure and spark right now or replace the MAF

Try disconnecting the MAF sensor and see if it will run, late 98 JDM impreza has the same MAF sensor and gives the same problem when they fail.
I had 2 go on mine withn 2 weeks of fitting an HKS induction kit, the car would run enough to move it/ crawl it home at low speed when the MAF was disconected.

Are you using the standard airbox or aftermarket bolt on cone filter?

The sensors are very unreliable with cone filters or any vibration.
