svx 1994 ac clutch problem

the ac clutch of the car is broken. the ac stills works and air comes cold but the clutch makes a squealing sound and tries to get stuck. the mechanic told me that i have to change the the whole unit... is it possible to change only the clutch since the compressor still works? and the car is 94 and seems is about time the clutch broke... or could have been broken because of overtighting... thanks for response...

clutches can be replced with compressor installed- I have done it. The bearing is
sometimes hard to find to purchase. I would assume the noise is the bearing. The bearing turns regardless if the AC is on or not. Held in with snap ring that holds the inner clutch face/ pulley to compressor. The outer clutch face is fastened to the shaft with small bolt. A pulley puller is usually needed to pull both parts of the clutch off.

Make sure it's not just the tensioner pulley bearing failing.
