I have searched everywhere for this info
Allright everyone, I got my knock sensor in, and tommorrow is the day. Id do it now, but the engine is still hot. I searched and found LOTS of articles about how to replace the sensors, what to remove, and found some great pics of what im looking for. I have all the information I need, and feel confident I can get it done quickly. The only problem is, I cannot find a consensus on which sensor is the #2 sensor. I have heard people say its the right hand one, the left hand one, the front one, the back one. So someone, who is 100% positive, please tell me if I need to go to the one on the drivers side or the one on the passenger side.
P.S. I am aware there are only 2 sensors, and when I say front/back and left/right, that either the left or right one is on the front, and the other one is on the back. Last edited by dwd1985; 10-18-2005 at 05:01 PM. Reason: add on info |

knock sensors.
As far as I can tell, the no.2 is on the left hand side. That is the drivers side in the US.
Harvey. Ps.the left/right, is as seen from the drivers seat.

My apologies, I know you had answered this question before, but as I was looking for all of the info I could get, I found about half of the people saying it was on the left, and half of the people on the right. I just wanted to make sure before I put myself through this huge pain in the ass tommorrow.

If you're looking from the driver's perspective (which is the most frequent point of measurement), it's on the left. Of course, if you're standing and looking into the engine bay, it's on the right -- ergo the confusion. Instructions should always be given from the driver's point of view. I walked into the tranny shop one afternoon (they were working on my tranny for the umpteenth time), and they said they were having trouble figuring "something" out. I asked them if they'd checked the voltage to the resistor and I pointed to it. The owner of the shop said, "there's that resistor you were looking for." The tech replied, "The Subaru consultant in California said it's on the left." To which I replied, "It is, if you're sitting in the driver's seat." It's tough when your only option is an independent shop.
