Subarus are nortorious for getting air pockets in the engine when drained and refilled, best to park it on a steap up-hill incline overnight after it's been brought up to operating temp.(front of car up-hill)

They have to be warmed up and then cooled down to burp out the air, and suck back in water from the overflow tank, sometimes it takes a few times to get it all.

It'll probably be fine by now as long as you've kept it topped off for a few times of getting warmed up and cooled off....

If not it must be something else.

also doesn't putting the front up-hill make the radiator opening for the overflow into the radiator even higher than the over flow tank(more so than it is on flat ground)

that would eliminate gravity drip... or is that the point.

The ideal is to make the radiator cap the highest point so all the air will accumulate there, and go out throught the over fill once pressure builds up....than as it cools it will suck anti-freeze out of the over flow tank to replace the air...

And ramps will work fine....

- head gasket?
- cracked head?
- warped head?

Repeatedly overheating the engine is not helping your situation!

I'd be mostly worried about what's getting into the cooling system. (oil?)

Is the top rad hose even hot?

Everything seems to be under control now (temperature wise)

seems to be running okay.
although sure the higher temperatures have caused my problem with oil leaks

I'm glad it's running back at normal temp for you.
