Significant Technical Input Registered SVX
Holden Monaro Quattro.

Holden is showing the association with Subaru with the Quattro. The AWD system that they use in this and the Adventra, is a take off of the AWD that the RHD and European SVX has.

Using the same epicyclic center diff with the same torque split. But going cheap skate with not using the torque control clutch in the diff as we have. They have gone for the cheaper and IMHO less effective ABS control to stop the spinning wheel.

In our system, which is the same as the B4, The TCU senses the wheel spin starting and applies the clutch to apply more drive to the other wheels. The Holden system uses the ABS to detect a wheel spinning and applies the brake on that wheel to stop the spin.

The Subaru system that we have, keeps the drive applied at all times. The Holden system applies a brake. This does not seem like a good way to have forward progress.

Harvey.

If I understand this correctly:

45kph bend......entry speed 100kph

Holden system: Run for the hills, anchors overboard

SVX: whistling, la de da.....*zzzzzoooooooooooommmmmmm*

And a 10 year old car....

Coming of Age?

Hey, come on guys, it's only 2003
You can't expect the 'Lionosaurus's or 'Henry's' delinquents to allow themselves to be dragged into modern world until at least the third millenium
I'm not going to try to say that SUBARU is the world leader in automotive technological innovation, but they do know how to pick up on an idea and push it further.
The Quattro is nice, but I still like my SVX !
the only thing keeping the Australian auto industry alive is globalization (
ie, sell foreign cars with local badges) , import tarrifs and a bathurst brainwashed motoring culture
Example; Twin turbo, All wheel drive Nissan Skylines (GODZILLA'S) blow the doors off locally produced clones of European designs fitted with 1950's engines
Result; Ban lightweight, fuel efficient turbos from the 'AUSTRALIAN' race
When I look down the road while driving, I see Subarus, Nissans and some of those little wind-up Hondas!, the Fords and Holdens are just part of the background scenery aren't they?
Arthur.

Jeez, I just know I'm gunna get flamed for this!

Coming of Age?

Heh, you just said what iwas going to say if I could say so.

Yes we generally make motors and Flord again do seem to have an attitude that says that if we paint it a different colour then we can call it a different model.

I guess I'll never see a Holden as pretty as a motor car.

Kenn

Pity me my work car is a Flord.

Little juice coupe?

Is the Monaro you mention the Coupe or a 4 door?

The ones imported to England are rear drive rubber-burners. Used to be a 4 door looking like an Opel Omega on steroids, but recently a Coupe has emerged which looks kinda cool, and I am fond of coupes which are full-size four-seaters. 2+2s are a waste of space, and the SVX is pretty marginal here......

[Go ahead, flame me, see if I care?]

Are these Quattro variants for racing only, or sold for the street too?

Joe

Little Juice Coupe

Joe,

The 2 door coupe has been back on the roads over here for a couple of years and it looks deluxe (for a home grown product). There are some pretty horny power packages starting from 235KW and peaking at 300KW straight off the showroom floor, although CSV in Victoria puts out a version with about 330KW (I think).

The Quattro isn't available yet - probably mid next year at around $95 - 100,000 (our dough) and will come initially with 270KW. Looks mint, despite detractors amongst fellow SVX fans. Full Subaru style 4WD system as described would probably make Quattro prohibitively expensive for local market but el cheapo version still a step in the right direction for Holden.

Believe production is to be limited to 100 units pa for first couple of years so don't expect to see too many on the roads of sunny Ireland! Rear WD 2 door version has just been released in USA as Pontiac GTO and has had some pretty good press over there so far. Have to wait to see how the septics accept it in the marketplace though.

Hope you get to see one in your home town soon!!

Regards,
Timbo

Thanks Timbo.

Looks cool to me too. I would not be ashamed to be seen in one, in fact, it seems to have enough horsepower to smoke everything right up to supercar level. Can't argue with that, or at least I won't.

I see Harvey's point about the tranny clutch vs the ABS braking control mechanism. However, I wondered was it possible that the engines to be used would make too much power and torque, possibly burning up the clutch too often? No? Well, sometimes manufacturers go for the simpler solutions because of less recall bother, as opposed to just keeping cost down.

Thumbs up

Thanks for those Kenn.

Not your cup of tea, eh?

I really like the idea of the AWD one. Not too far removed from the SVX concept, though with a larger but much older design engine.

That fourwheeldrive one would sell in the States. The Pontiac GTO has a nicer nose, although I have only seen one or two pictures of it.
