Significant Technical Input Registered SVX Classic SVX
Changing plugs: Dealer's screwup, my gain

Most coupons for service I receive from my dealer (Russel Subaru) say "most models" or some other catch phrase so I usually ignore them.

Since buying the Outback VDC I have evidently moved into an elite circle. I received a coupon for service from Russell Subaru's Dealer's "Inner Circle Program" It had my name on it AND the VIN number for my SVX. One of the coupons was for a spark plug change and air filter change for $129.95. no disclamers, exclusions or catch phrases. The program states it offers "inside pricing, special offers and exclusive benefits"

I went to the service department today and asked what they wanted for a plug change for the SVX.
(I thought maybe they would not be giving me the platinum plugs at that price)

Their quote was for a plug change was $295.00, because "the platinum plugs were very expensive and you had to move a lot of parts to get to them." (Tischer Subaru quoted me $325.00 for the same job)

I then showed him the coupon and he was quite startled!. He said that whoever put the serial number on the coupon probably did not know it was an SVX. In any event he agreed to honor the coupon. ($8.50/plug x 6 = $51.00 + $13.00 air filter = $64.00 in parts)

Looks like dealer labor for a set of plugs is only $66.00. I wasn't quite ready to do this yet as my plugs have only 50,000 miles on them, but I can't pass this one up.

Hey John, just curious. Does the degree of access difficulty look to be the same for the VDC as the SVX?
I paid $12.50 (ouch) per Nippondenso plug at Heritage.
Ron.

You may have gotten a good deal, but that sounds like a fair price to me. An hour labor for a professional mechanic seems right.

The other prices appear to have about 3 or 4 hours of labor built in. Hell, I can do it in less time and I am not a pro! That is definitely gouging.
