Climate Control Display Fades and Dies
When I first start up the climate control ("92 LS-L), the temperature display may or may not illuminate. If it does, it gradually gets dimmer and dimmer until it's no longer visible.
Is there a simple (i.e., less than $600 for a new unit) fix for this?

is it just the temp indicator light that's failing, or the whole system dies?

Does the clock fade as well?

The system itself works great, keeps blowing and cooling regardless of whether the display is on or not. The clock's okay too.
When the display fades, it doesn't matter if I change the intensity of the dash lights - it's still dim or gone.

I honestly have no help except to refer you to a parts drawing at SubaruParts (see site hyperlink below). I have never seen this unit apart even though I've had that panel off.
http://www.subaruparts.com/diag/?mod...ategory=723-A1 Maybe it's just the knob part at about $17, but unfortunately I think it's probably a built in LED display to the whole unit at mega bucks. Get the part number from SubaruParts and call them or the nearest dealer and see if the cheap part has any led elements - if not start contacting the guys on this forum that have vehicles being parted out - best of luck |
