Then those voltage readings are completely normal. Now measure the voltage of the battery right before, and right after you hook it up in your car. If the voltage drops more than a couple tenths you have a parasitic drain.

Re: New battery, but completely dead

I have been asked to suggest that you go here in order to find the real oil on how to properly check for current leakage discharging a battery. I am told that this information and some more, has for some reason never been included in the how too dope.

Re: New battery, but completely dead

12.88 just after I hooked it up to the car again. Not sure what the reading was just seconds before I hooked it up. I will check tonight again still.

So I fixed the ground wires..tapped new hole, but I'm just having no luck, the red alternator mod wire was barely hanging onto the crimped end...needless to say I have to get that re-crimped tomorrow since I don't have a tool for that.

Re: New battery, but completely dead

Thanks for the link Amber. I was going to use a test light but this is another possibility.

Re: New battery, but completely dead

I would make sure the connector problems were all corrected, check the voltage, hook the battery up and check the voltage the next morning. The voltage stays relatively consistent when battery is disconnected, right? If the voltage goes down after you reconnect it, something is draining the battery.
I would think that the bad connections you had could have been the problem. Keeping fingers crossed

Re: New battery, but completely dead

Well I had 12.88 when I hooked it up @ 7pm....@ 9pm it was 12.82...
I hope tomorrow morning it's still at that reading. Yes I really don't want to jump to conclusions until all of my wiring is hooked up, but I can still check tomorrow with the multimeter or test light for leakage.

Re: New battery, but completely dead

Ok I think it was a combination of things:
1) Alternator to Pos. Terminal cable needed a new crimped fitting..was barely secure

2) Hooked up a test light and immediately the test light started blinking and I heard the driver's side door lock clicking

So I pulled the fuse on the door timer inside the left kick panel....light went out, clicking stopped.

Can we confirm the door lock timer was dead or faulty? And is there only one timer on the car, located passenger side?
