Re: It's what I do. (a morning at work with nevin)

That's a big truck thing. Looks like a green version of what I drive to work every day...

Seriously, that's pretty beefcake. Those tires are heavy as hell, I'd hate to have to change them. And what do you even jack something like that up with?

Employee: "Yeah, we got a combine we need to jack up to change the tires. What do we jack it up with?"
Boss: "Ah, one of those. Well, you jack that up with the only thing bigger than a combine. Let me see if I can get my mother-in-law on the phone."

Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, scotch in one hand, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming HOOOOYA !!!!!

Typically I use a jack to jack things up. lol There's a picture of it (I think it's a link) early on in the post. 20 ton pneumatic/hydraulic jack. Works like a charm! And honestly, these things are not hard to change. Sure, if they were the first tires you'd ever changed, you'd have an AWFUL time, but you do it a few times and you get the hang of things!

John Deere rules!

My grandfather and uncle both retired from Deere (Moline and Waterloo). Would have probably ended up working for Deere if I'd stuck it out at Iowa State instead of coming back east

How much of the Iowa corn is actually for human consumption? Last time I was out at the family farm (mother's side - Oakville - south east from you) I was told most of the corn was being used as feed.

Just out of curiosity,
what do those tires run? I'd guess 500-1000 each?

Umm, your guess would be a bit low. They're like $3,000 apiece mounted.

That would be sweet! hahah, I have a buddy who was in Iraq, and when they were bored, they'd race the 6-wd trucks. haha Tax dollars hard at work.

Re: It's what I do. (a morning at work with nevin)

I just now read your original post........ try not to look so goddamn happy in your photographs!

I guess $3000 isnt so bad, over in Dubai, the equipment shortage there is driving tire prices for the giant haulers to $150,000 EACH (per NatGeo)!!!

Maybe you can bring an old one to the next Reading meet and take turns rolling each other down a hill in it
