Re: locked out of my laptop
So this is weird, everytime I try to make a cd/dvd or a USB with an ISO (and I did change the BIOS to load from them first) I get this that comes up:
But if there was no operating system why would it even boot up to the point where a user password would have to be entered?

Re: locked out of my laptop
I get that error with both trinity-rescue-kit.3.3-build-321.iso and Vista_Recovery_Disc.iso, 2 seperate files that I found online. Instructions said after download to burn them to a CD or DVD or load them onto a USB and just restart the computer and follow the steps

Re: locked out of my laptop
You have to burn them as an "image", not just burn the .iso to a disk. Use burning software that has image burning capability.

Re: locked out of my laptop
Ok, dont use your boot CD, first you can try this easy trick(only if the user is other than admin):
When you are prompted for login password, press Ctrl+Alt+ (2 times) Supr , then the login prompt appears, and you can enter as administrator and leave the password blank, this only works is there is NO password for the admin login. PS: Next time you stole a laptop, try not to chose one with a pass. Hahaha just kidding man, take it easy, i couldŽnt ressist

I use "Sonic" that came with my HP, but many people use Nero.... just use whats easiest I guess. Im sure theres lots of freeware image burners as well.

Re: locked out of my laptop
What's the Service Tag?
The unit may have come with a recovery partition. It's common for dell to send them out w/o cd's

Re: locked out of my laptop
Well none of these seem to be working, so I'm just going to break down and call Dell for a disc. Thanks for the help anyway

Re: locked out of my laptop
My HP has the recovery partition also, I just wonder how he can get to it in the first place if he's locked out of windows. On mine, you just have to press a certain F key while booting to get to the recovery menu, not sure if dell gives the same option. You might try just pressing each F key repeatedly while it boots, its worth a shot before shelling out for up to 3 recovery DVDs or 6+ CD's.
